Silph League - Announcements
It is time! The Arena is thrilled to announce this morning that we're unveiling a powerful new resource to help you conquer GO Battle League. What's in the box? Some game-changers for new PvP players and veterans alike. Take a look!
🔥 1. 3v3 Battle Team Rankings!
After great efforts (and insane processing requirements!) the performance of roughly *half a million Battle Teams per League* have been analyzed, compared, and ranked to provide a uniquely useful resource: the most powerful teams of 3 in Great, Ultra, and Master League! These calculations build on PvPoke.com's amazing 1v1 rankings to analyze full Battle Teams *as a unit* - and the outcome is the starting point many beginners have been searching for. (Shoutout to PvPoke for the help!)
📈 2. Live Arena Data: Most *Popular* Teams!
*Also* for the first time, the Arena is exposing data on the most frequently seen Battle Teams in ranked open Great/Ultra/Master League tournaments!
🧠 3. Basics: "Getting Into PvP" Guide!
On each of the new League pages, we've included a new (really great) guide introducing the basics of PvP aimed at newcomers struggling with GO Battle League.
⏯ 4. Highlighted Resources!
We've also sought the best resources for Great, Ultra, and Master League and have collected them into a Resource Highlights section for easy reference.
We know many newcomers are feeling overwhelmed or discouraged trying to build their GBL teams. We hope these resources will give them the confidence boost to stick with it and jump into the competitive PvP community.
We hope you enjoy your new tools. They're a labor of love from the Arena to you! Help spread the word to those in your community - and good luck!

❗️The Team Rocket Takeover event this weekend has brought a new focus to Shadow Pokemon - and several questions have arisen that begged answers. So, the Arena's Meta Team (along with KakunaMattata42 from PvPoke, JRESeawolf, and iantslagle!) have crunched the numbers and got to the truth of how important Shadow Pokemon *really* are (or aren't!) for PvP.
https://silph.gg/updates/a-shadow-over-great-league
^ tl;dr - Shadows are rife with trade-offs & do not perform "objectively better" than non-Shadows! This article deep dives into the data for Toxic Cup and Great League.
👍We hope this may come as a relief to the FOMO-averse among us going into the weekend. Beyond this, however, a few minor tweaks are required for the Arena's site to add the appropriate support for Shadows on battle teams.
⚖️ As of a short while ago, the following are now in effect moving forward:
1. Shadow Pokemon must be designated when registering your Battle Team for tournaments. (A new 'toggle switch' is now available next to the CP field when registering.)
2. The Arena Rules have been updated to make this clear (https://silph.gg/rules)
3. Shadow Pokemon will be displayed with an icon on all Pokemon team previews on Silph.gg - so you know what you're up against!
Thanks again to Matt from PvPoke and Pisistratus for the effort on this analysis. We hope this resource is helpful as you examine Shadow Pokemon options for your own Battle Teams.

Silph League - Announcements
📢 With acknowledgement for increased public health risk affecting many communities around the world and the logistical hurdles communities and organizers are facing this month, the Arena has a few announcements impacting the competitive Season schedule:
🐝 The Toxic Cup Continues! 🐝
Toxic Cup tournaments can now be scheduled an extra month - through April 30th. This extension applies to all Toxic Cup tournaments in the Arena and is not region-restricted. Battling in the Toxic Cup in April will not interfere with rank weighting in a Regional Invitational or in April's monthly Cup - competitors can weight (10x) one of each Cup type as normal.
Note: As all competitors now have 7 weeks to find and weight a Toxic Cup tournament, the Arena will not be taking requests to alter weighting for any past Toxic Cup tournaments. If you feel your circ*mstances are extenuating, shoot an email to team@silph.gg with details.🏆 Regional Invitationals 🏆
The Arena will be continuing to work with any Regional hosts concerned about coronavirus risk affecting their Invitational. Hosts can email team@silph.gg with details of their situation to request approval for a date change. Note that any proposed Regional Invitational date changes must be at least 3 weeks in advance. RSVP'd competitors will be notified (via silph.gg notifications) if their event dates are changed.
❤️ We again urge all organizers and competitors to take responsible precautions and abide local guidelines and ordinances when planning and attending live events in this climate.

Silph League - Announcements
As COVID-19 continues to spread, the time has come for the Arena to take additional measures for the health & safety of our organizers and competitors:
📢 In-Person Tournament Events: Suspended
Beginning Monday at 9:00am UTC, in-person Arena tournaments will be suspended through May. Remote tournaments will continue as normal. Live tournaments previously scheduled for this weekend may continue, but we encourage organizers to hold them remotely if possible. Any tournaments scheduled for dates later than Monday morning must switch to remote or be cancelled.
📱Remote Tournaments & Max Capacities
Yesterday, Niantic lifted the Friendship requirement for remote battling to only requiring “Good Friends” for 30 days. We encourage all to take advantage of this timely change and host remote tournaments locally during this time.
For the first time, large remote tournaments are now possible - though these are in uncharted territory logistically. Due to this (plus the need for Silph.gg to upgrade infrastructure to support increased large tournaments & other factors) only remote tournaments up to 7 rounds (65-128 competitors) will be supported on silph.gg for the present.
🏆 Regional Invitationals
There will be no in-person tournaments in April - including Regional Invitationals. But the Arena is working hard to ensure 2020 Regionals will be held. For now, Regional tournaments & RSVP lists have been temporarily locked. More info on the adjustments to the 2020 Regional Invitationals will be released in the coming days.
We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to make adjustments for the health and safety of all competitors. The Arena team is committed to continuing to make competitive PvP exciting and rewarding – even in the face of a shifting environment.

Important Arena Measures to Slow the Spread of COVID-19 | The Silph Arena

🔥 The 2020 Regional Invitationals are ON!
With no clear end in sight for the public health concerns from COVID-19, live tournament events remain suspended for the foreseeable future. ...But it's high time for the Arena to adapt, overcome, and re-open the path to becoming World Champion!
🏆 After weighing the realities of the difficult options facing us, the Arena has come to a decision. 2020 Regional Invitationals must go on! Thus, all 2020 Regional Invitationals will be held as LIVE (REAL-TIME) REMOTE tournaments throughout April!
👂 Niantic: The Arena team has spoken with Niantic, and their team has committed to continue the Friendship level reduction through April 30th (and say they will keep an eye on the situation as things continue to develop).
⏲️ Live-Remote Format: While Invitationals will be remotely attended (hosted by the official 2020 Host community in each Region), they will run similarly to live tournamenta, concluding in one sitting with rounds happening quickly.
✉️ RSVPs To Re-Open: On Saturday, the Regionals map will be updated and competitor RSVPs will re-open for 72 hours before locking! 📢 *REMEMBER: Competitors must attend the Invitational closest to where they reside (or most frequently battle). Competitors attempting to battle outside of their Region will be subject to punitive action.* RSVP lists will be hidden until the 72 hours window closes to minimize the temptation to attempt to compete in incorrect Regions.
💬 Regional Hosts should log into silph.gg for time-sensitive information.
We did not foresee a pandemic breaking out. Nor was this the format we originally envisioned for Regionals. But we are glad that, even while we all stay indoors and isolate, we can still test the strongest competitors in each Region on an elite battlefield. Congrats to those who qualified - study hard! And thank you all for your patience and support.
