5 out of 5 stars Making Marines   April 10, 2009

My youngest son is at Marine boot camp now. After he left I wanted to see anything that I thought could help me to connect with him . This DVD is great. It was filmed at Parris Island,SC-where my son is- it gave us a little explanation of some of the training he is getting. I recommend it for all families with son's or daughters going to boot camp

When my son went to boot camp I wanted to know as much as possible about what he would be experiencing. This video gave a realistic view of what happens and the various emotions experienced by the recruits. I highly recommend this video.

5 out of 5 stars A well-appreciated gift!   April 26, 2008

I bought this as a gift for a pre-teen boy who is determined that he must be a Marine. Personally, I'm not sure if I'm OK with this decision, but I am determined that he make a fully informed decision based on all the facts.

If Making Marines helps him to make the correct choice, it is worth it's weight in gold. Either way, I couldn't hold the Corps in greater esteem. They are America's finest and bravest men and women. God Bless them all, and bring every one home safely!

I really liked this documentary!!! It was very helpful in gaining some knowledge of what goes on in PI for Marine Corp Recruits. My daughter who is interested in joining the Marines really enjoyed it and said it helped to show her some of what she will go through in the future!!

5 out of 5 stars If you want to become a Marine, or if your son or daugher is signing up   March 22, 2010

This is a very good documentary to show to your son or daughter if they are considering the Marine Corps. The young men and women who are energized by it, are the right ones for the job. The documentary is not a sales job and it doesn't make the challenges look easy.

This is also an excellent DVD if your son or daughter is signing up and you are being drafted as a Marine Corps parent. (No one tells parents of Marine recruits that they have just been drafted but, ah, welcome to our world.) You might want to show it to Grandma and Grandpa too. The Corps, for all its traditions, has changed quite a bit since the 1960s.

I was impressed that the Marines allowed this documentary to be made, but that just shows how much I had to learn about the Corps, and how different they are from the other services. Kids who are going to get through this are the ones who are excited by what they see here.

Boot camp is a psychological test and it weeds out those who won't be right for the Corps. But in addition to stress this documentary shows humor (those Drill Instructors can be hilarious--though a smart recruit will not crack a smile) comraderie and the enormous value that the Corp places on teamwork.
